JayamRavi Actor

Jayam Ravi is the upcoming star of Tamil cinema. After debuting in Jayam (2002) produced by his father-editor Mohan and directed by his brother M Raja, he hasn’t looked back (that’s why he’s called Jayam, too).

A martial arts expert and a trained dancer, he completing his degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College in Chennai before deciding to enter the film industry.

Ravi was first schooled at Jawahar Vidyalaya in Ashok Nagar in Chennai and studied dancing with the Bharatnatyam dancer Nalini Balakrishnan and performed his arrangetram (debut) when he was twelve years old.

Jayam has also trained at the Kishore Namit Kapur Institute in Mumbai. Jayam Ravi is one hero with moderate good looks who has all the formal training that goes into becoming an actor.

After his debut venture Jayam, his next happened to be M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi 92004), a remake of the Telugu movie Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi. Later, came Daas and Mazhai, both in 2005. Mazhai was a remake of the Telugu film Varsham.

Jayam’s next was Idhaya Thirudan under director Saran. It was only Something Something ... Unakkum Enakkum (2006), the remake of the Telugu hit Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana that turned out to be a big hit for him.

Trisha Krishnan reprised her role in the Tamil version alongside Jayam Ravi in the film. With the magical combination of the director-brother duo, the success was repeated.

Jayam’s next film Deepavali (2007) under director Ezhil's direction saw him pairing with actress Bhavana. This was a moderate and the maiden production venture of successful director Lingusamy.

After this came Santosh Subramaniam under his lucky mascot and brother M. Raja's direction. This film which released on 12 April 2008 became a blockbuster that appealed to both the classes and the masses. Jayam Ravi's 2008 film Dhaam Dhoom was the last directorial venture of the late cinematographer-director Jeeva. The film was a success.

Up next is Peranmai where Jayam Ravi is sporting a rugged look, much unlike his earlier films. The film is being made by successful director SP Jhananathan and slated for 2009.

Incidentally, Jayam Ravi underwent martial arts training for months before the actual shoot for the film M Kumaran to bulk up his physique to be in sync with his character as the boxer in the film. Out of the eleven movies he has been part of, five of them were remakes of Telugu films. Also, popular stars Asin, Sada and Kangana Ranaut made their debuts in Jayam Ravi’s films.

Jayam Ravi is to marry Tilakamalar, the sister of Thinakaran in 2010. HasniAhamed
